The.BlkRoom is a Chicago-based creative organization and co-creation studio rooted in West Garfield Park. Since 2021, we’ve been creating opportunities for Black and Brown artists, creatives, and community members to showcase their work, connect with one another, learn new skills, and recharge.
Through exhibitions, workshops, panels, artist memberships, wellness experiences, and community gatherings, we’re building more than a space—we’re building the relationships, resources, and creative infrastructure that help our community thrive.

The BlkFriday Gala
For The.BlkRoom’s second annual BLKFriday Gala, we are exploring the theme and idea of Afro-Currency.
Afro-Currency speaks to the many forms of value created, exchanged, and sustained within Black communities. Beyond money, currency can take the form of knowledge, creativity, care, time, labor, culture, access, storytelling, relationships, and collective resources. The theme invites us to consider what we value, what we exchange, and how we choose to invest in one another and the ecosystems we build.
As we raise funds to support our growing programs, The.BlkRoom invites our community to transform Black Friday—from a moment centered on consumption into one centered on collective investment. Building on the success of our pilot Corridor Gallery, led by Kindred Noir, guests will experience visual art from a range of solo and group exhibitors, food and refreshments from local Black-owned partners and businesses, and a culminating panel featuring TBR members, artists, and community activators.
We ask these questions to raise $30,000, invest in our community, and sustain the programs that make The.BlkRoom possible. The funds raised will directly support The.BlkRoom’s ongoing programming and help sustain and grow The Corridor Gallery.
We invite artists and guests to reflect on the forms of currency they carry, the exchanges that have shaped them, and what it means to intentionally circulate resources within our communities. In this spirit, the gala itself becomes an act of Afro-Currency—a celebration of Black creativity, connection, and contribution that generates the resources needed to continue building spaces, programs, and opportunities for our community.
