The Vocal Shed with Alysha Monique
The Vocal Shed was born from a vision between two Black women - Alysha Monique and my manager @manithemanager - who believed in the power of creating a space where artists could connect, collaborate, and educate the community through music.
As we celebrate Women's History Month, I'm reflecting on the very few Vocal Sheds that honored this moment and the intention behind it. What started as a vision has grown into a community of singers, musicians, and creatives supporting each other in real time.

Just Us Dinner
Just(Us) Dinner: Rooted: Gardening Workshop
Wednesday, Apr 15, 2026 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM CDT
Growth takes intention. Growth takes tending. Growth takes time.
This April, Just(Us) Dinner invites you into an evening of planting — both in soil and in spirit.
At Seeds + Stories, each guest will receive a seed to plant and take home. As our hands press into soil, we’ll share stories about growth:
What has helped us grow?
What tried to uproot us?
What does tending to ourselves and our communities truly require?
Planting is never passive. It is an act of belief. A declaration that something is worth nurturing.
Over a shared meal from Inspiration Kitchen, we’ll reflect on the parallels between gardens and our lives — the patience, the setbacks, the unseen work beneath the surface, and the quiet miracles that come from consistent care.
You’ll leave with:
🌿 A planted seed to grow at home
🌿 New connections
🌿 Stories rooted in resilience and possibility
Because what we water, grows.
Seats are limited. Join us at the table.
There is a $15 deposit for your reservation that is returned upon your participation in the event!(please note that we understand $15 can be a significant impact, if this is your case, please email Janelle Martin at janelle@kcachicago.org to received registration code)
